how to logon to your carefree desktop from mac os x
that's right: microsoft supports remote desktop connections from mac os x.
however, at this time, we still need to be informed ahead if you're planning on using a mac. we expect that in the near future, this won't be necessary anymore.
getting connected for the first time is an easy 3 step procedure.
the screenshots below were shot in os x 10.4 (tiger), but it should look similar in later versions of os x.
step 1: download and install the rdc client software
download and install microsoft remote desktop connection client for mac 2.0. it's a free download.
step 2: setup the rdc client's preferences
click rdc | preferences (or press command+comma).
the rdc preferences window has 8 tabs, each one is illustrated below.
2.1 login tab:

Note: make sure to enter your carefree desktop user name as shown here (user@organisation) and to leave the domain field empty.
2.2 display tab:

this is just a sample, you can always change it to your preferences later once you have the connection.
2.3 keyboard tab:

we suggest you keep the defaults.
2.4 sound tab:

2.5 drives tab:

again, we suggest you accept the default setting.
in our experience, it comes as pretty handy to have access to your mac documents folder from your carefree desktop.
2.6 printers tab:

if you have a printer connected to your mac, select it on this tab.
2.7 applications tab:

we suggest you leave this feature unchecked.
2.8 security tab:

again, we suggest you accept the default setting.
now, close the preferences window.
step 3: connect

enter the carefree desktop address we specified to you (the above is merely an example) and click "connect".
(note: we suggest you save this rdc profile. give it an indicative name, example "exite carefree desktop". by default, the rdc profiles are saved in the your "documents/rdc connections" folder. you may wish to also save a copy on your desktop so you can simply double-click to connect.
if you don't save your profile under a specific name, it will still be available as your "default" rdc profile).
